Performance Numbers of MVAPICH on Opteron Barcelona Platform (02/28/08)

  • Experimental Testbed (TACC Ranger System): Each node of the testbed is a SunBlade x6420 blade with four Quad-core AMD Opterons (@2.00GHz) and 32 GB main memory. A InfiniBand full-CLOS fat tree connects all the nodes.
  • MVAPICH currently delivers the following performance: one-way latency of 0.66 microsec and unidirectional bandwidth of up to 1832 Million Bytes/sec for intra-socket transfer; one-way latency of 0.80 microsec and unidirectional bandwidth of up to 1463 Million Bytes/sec for inter-socket (1-hop) transfer; one-way latency of 1.0 microsec and unidirectional bandwidth of up to 1438 Million Bytes/sec for inter-socket (2-hops) transfer on the above testbed. (1 Mega Byte = 1,048,576 Bytes; 1 Million Byte = 1,000,000 Bytes)
